Exploradores de Café promotes the value of Mexican coffee and the Mexican coffee community.

As Exploradores de Café, we believe in the potential of Mexican coffee to represent the quality, diversity, and work produced in Mexico, as well as its capacity to strengthen coffee-growing communities across the country.

CONTEXT

In 2021, Exploradores de Café organized the coffee festival Simbiosis, where one of the central panel discussions addressed the question: “Why doesn’t Mexican coffee have a stronger representation in the U.S. market?”
Simbiosis was created as a response to other coffee events that prioritize equipment, software, furniture, and appliances, placing less focus on the challenges faced at origin. The event provided Mexican coffee farmers and roasters with a space to present their work and communicate both the challenges and achievements within their communities.

During these discussions, participants agreed that there is an existing demand for Mexican coffee outside of Mexico. However, logistical complexity and a lack of collective organization have historically limited its international representation. Despite sharing a large border with the United States and existing international trade agreements, exporting coffee from Mexico is significantly more expensive than exporting from other Central and South American countries.

As a result, a shared conclusion emerged: joining forces could help distribute the costs and efforts required to represent, promote, and export Mexican coffee more effectively. This dialogue led to the idea of developing a collaborative coffee trade project focused on organizing and presenting Mexican coffee in international contexts.

Integrity

It includes hygiene standards, fair wages, environmental responsibility, and consistency across samples and exported lots. Integrity enables us to develop long-term projects grounded in trust, accountability, and continuity with coffee-growing communities in Mexico.

Freshness

Freshness reflects our direct connection to Mexican coffee as an agricultural product.
It emphasizes origin, farming practices, and respect for the environments where coffee is produced throughout Mexico. This value keeps our work grounded in cultivation, seasonality, and place.

Creativity

Creativity enables us to communicate Mexican coffee in meaningful and relevant ways.
Through design, research, and experimentation, we explore formats that highlight the processes and knowledge that add value to coffee produced in Mexico. Creativity also supports adaptability across different markets and cultural contexts.

Community

Community is central to everything we do.
Exploradores de Café works as a platform that brings together Mexican producers, roasters, scientists, and creatives. Collaboration fosters knowledge exchange and promotes collective growth within the Mexican coffee industry.
